When you are able to get the Downtown Events Group’s Stephen King, 80/35′s Amedeo Rossi, and the Downtown Farmer’s Market’s Kelly Foss in one room, you’re bound to have great things happen.

Summer Daydream by Jody Perry
King kicked off the joint Chambers luncheon at the Hotel Savery with facts and figures about the 13th annual Des Moines Arts Festival on June 25-27 in the Pappajohn Sculpture Garden in downtown Des Moines. Among the hundreds of applicants, 18 artists return from previous shows and 72% are new to the area. The Pappajohn Sculpture Garden will have many interactive features including US Cellular text information and a possible iPhone app about the sculptures. Amedeo Rossi picked up next and focused more on the innovation of
80/35 instead of the music. While the music is the core function of 80/35, the event is positioned as a recruiting and retention tool for individuals in the community. The audience of the luncheon may not be interested in 80/35, but be assured their younger staffers are in tune with the event, and the event helps make Des Moines the community and cultural epicenter they want and need.

- 80/35′s Amedeo Rossi continues to turn the Des Moines cultural scene on it’s ear.
Kelly Foss with the Downtown Farmer’s Market wrapped up the 35-year history of the market, that is both the largest and oldest in the state of Iowa. Over 12,000 attend each week to pick up their fresh produce, meet friends, pursue hobbies, and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells. Foss’ mission for 2010 is to encourage people to make a meal from their bounty at the farmers market – you can get everything you need from salad, to bread, fresh meat and cheese, to wonderful desserts. Check out their website to see what is in season!
If you couldn’t make it this month, make sure you hit the July meeting or other educational or networking programs and make connections that count!
